DESCRIPTION

The Catch is Mustica’s latest work, born out of his collaboration with Land Rover and starts with Unstoppable Spirit, together with Gerry McGovern, the British car company’s design director and chief creative officer.

The continual creativity of contemporary London and the innovative country of Wales are the background scenes for two spectacular sculptural groups called The Catch, created to celebrate the Rugby World Cup 2015. An imaginary line masterfully traces the profile of this work highlighting its dynamism, typical of both the Land Rover and rugby.
The two sculptures are made of steel and fibreglass and are 29,5 ft high by 16,4 ft wide. They depict the Discovery Sport Land Rover in 1:1 scale. They are inspired by the lineout which, as explained by Lawrence Dallaglio, one of the winners of the 2003 Rugby World Cup, is the throw-in after a touche, a technique that requires a particular combination of power, technique and precision.

A shiny white resin body stretches towards infinity and like a lit flame rises upwards, taking to the extremes of dynamic tension, the symbol of rugby: the oval ball.

Both The Catch sculptures were made in Turin by a team of 40 people and are the fruit of over ten thousand hours of work. Resting on one hundred sqm of artificial grass it is equipped with 39 lights that represent the colours of the 20 participating nations of the championship.
